Comments:

The gimlet may have been

named after Royal Navy

surgeon Sir Thomas Gimlette

(served 1879-1913). Sir

Thomas was forever looking

for ways to combat scurvy.

When he discovered Rose’s

Lime Cordial he ensured

it was available on all Royal

Navy vessels. The cordial was

produced and patented by

Scottish entrepreneur Lauchlan

Rose in 1867, and was the

world’s first fruit concentrate.
